My hope for this project is that it may give peace of mind to an adolescent or young adult recently diagnosed with a cancer or blood disorder. On this site, I explore the nuances you might not expect after being diagnosed with cancer that is unique to being diagnosed during adolescence and young adulthood. Friendships, relationships, schoolwork, social interactions, and so many other things that are already complicated become extremely complicated when you mix in cancer. It is these uncharted areas on the roadmap to survivorship where I'd like to provide direction. Pictured at right is the beautiful, proud group of survivors from the Valerie Center that used cancer as a stepping stone on the way to happy, healthy lives. It is their stories of being kicked down, getting back up, and everything in between that formed the basis of my project.
